After he was accepted at Yale Law School, Patrick and his wife Vicki sold their home in Miami and moved to a rental apartment in New Haven, Connecticut with their infant son. They had one more son while at Yale and a third after moving to the Washington area. At Yale, Patrick won several student awards, including best “moot court” argument. He worked for a year after graduating for a prominent federal judge, U.S. District Judge Gerhard Gesell in Washington, D.C. In 1985, Patrick began his career as an attorney representing seriously injured people. Fred Boncher has extensive experience in personal injury, wrongful death, construction law and business litigation. In this powerful interview, he discusses this landmark work in the Michigan PBB contamination incident. These events were dramatized in the 1981 film Bitter Harvest. These events were also dramatized in the book "The Poisoning of Michigan.” A study was undertaken on 4,545 people to determine the effects of PBBs on human beings. These include three exposure groups – all people who lived on the quarantined farms, people who received food from these farms and workers (and their families) engaged in PBB manufacture – as well as 725 people with low-level PBB exposure. Fred is one of the founding members of this firm. He graduated from the University of Michigan with distinction in 1969. His education at the University of Michigan Law School was interrupted when he was called to serve in the United States Army in 1970. After his discharge in 1972, he returned to law school at the University of Michigan and received his law degree in 1973. ??Fred is a resident of Caledonia, Michigan, and has served his community over the years as a member of the Caledonia School Board, Holy Family Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, for which he serves as legal counsel for the Michigan State Jurisdiction, the Center for Environmental Studies, Villa Maria School for Girls, Break-A-Leg Productions and numerous other charitable and community organizations.
