In this exciting interview, he discusses his work in the case of Angela Martin, et al v. Survivair Respirators Inc., et al where the jury returned a $27 million verdict in favor of the family of a firefighter who died on the job because of faulty safety equipment. The jury awarded $12 million in actual damages to the family and $15 million in punitive damages to the family. This $27 Million verdict was the highest jury verdict in Missouri in 2007 and one of the highest in the United States. After the verdict, the amount was increased to a total of almost $35 Million due to pre-judgment interest awarded as a result of a pre-filing demand, which was not met by the company.
Jerry is also designated legal counsel for the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen Union, and also for the United Transportation Union. He has represented railroad workers in trials in many states and has had record setting jury verdicts in numerous jurisdictions, both in railroad and other personal injury cases. Jerry has been elected national President of the Academy of Rail Labor Attorneys for 2008-2009 and is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates. He has authored articles in the field of personal injury litigation and has spoken at numerous seminars on trial techniques, mass torts, and complex litigation. He has taught trial techniques as an adjunct professor at Washington University School of Law. Jerry is a graduate of the University of Illinois and UCLA Law School.

Shi spent two months in the hospital and an additional eight months in rehabilitation facilities. Tommy’s record-setting $45 million verdict changed the way managed care providers operate. Tommy is the current President of the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys, the official certifying body sanctioned by the American Bar Association for certification of competency in handling professional negligence cases.
