Jeffrey’s broad courtroom experience also includes representing clients in various state and federal courts nationwide, having been admitted pro hac vice in over 40 jurisdictions. He is a member of the Federal Trial Bar. He has been involved in a number of high-profile cases and has been admitted and argued in federal and state courts of appeal throughout the country, generating a number of recognized and regularly cited appellate decisions. Jeffrey is a frequent lecturer and participates in the activities of RIMS, the Property Loss Research bureau, Western loss Association, Blue Goose International, the Litigation, Construction, Products Liability and Tort & Insurance Practice Sections of the American Bar Association, the Propeller Club of the United States, and the Maritime Law Association. He is a member of the Economic Club of Chicago, and is active in supporting many charities and the arts. David J. Sockol is a highly distinguished lawyer who practices in the areas of general business transactions, banking, employment litigation and real estate. In this interview, he discusses his work in the case of Satellite Access Systems v. Kovar, which resulted in a $36 million verdict against Brent Kovar. Kovar claimed to have invented a breakthrough technology, but never produced his invention or pushed for its development. David is a 1986 graduate of Emory University and a 1989 graduate of Stetson University College of Law. He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1989, and he is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court, Middle District and Southern District of Florida, U.S. Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. David was born in Manhattan, New York and resides in St. Petersburg with his two children. He graduated from the Leadership St. Pete program and has served on the Board of Directors of the Sunshine City Jaycees as well as the Suncoast Epilepsy Association. He is currently a member of the St. Petersburg Bar Association, the Clearwater Bar Association, Pinellas County Trial Lawyers Association, and the Contractors and Builders Association. David also served as a Hearing Officer for the City of St. Petersburg Code Enforcement Division.
