Prominent Trial Attorney, Jack Girardi interviews Mark Shriver, who is the senior vice president of U.S. Programs at Save the Children in Washington, D.C. Under his guidance, The programs now benefit more than 80,000 children in 14 states and studies reveal remarkable academic improvement for children involved in the program. Shriver also started The Choice Program, a juvenile delinquency prevention program in Baltimore that has been replicated in five states. In 1994 he ran for the Maryland House of Delegates, was elected and spent eight years in the state legislature and at the same time worked in the telecommunications industry. Following Hurricane Katrina, Shriver led a collation that advocated for the creation of The National Commission on Children and Disasters.

“A Good Man” is Mark Shriver's biography of his own father, Sergeant Shriver who died in 2011 after a long battle with Alzheimers. His father's record might have suggested the title “A Great Man”..., he created the Peace Corps; was the architect of President Johnson’s War on Poverty creating such programs as Head Start, Job Corps, Legal Services, Foster Grandparents and Vista; he served as U.S. Ambassador to France from 1968 through 1970; and in the 1970s he ran for Vice President and later President. But Mark Shriver's remembrance of his father's life goes beyond the headlines and gives a candid close up look at his father not only as a “Great Man” but as a “Good Man” that he knew possibly better than anyone. Mark Shriver looks back at his father's simple and poignant gestures over a lifetime – in the frequent notes and daily talks, trips and prayers together – all based in Sarge’s unwavering devotion to his family (he and Eunice were married for 56 years); his devout Catholicism, which included attending daily Mass; his innate sense of duty and service to his country (he served and was wounded in World War II); and his unending belief in mankind ability’s to do good work in one’s lifetime. We are honored to welcome Mark Shriver to the Law Business Insider.
